Domestic abuse is the use of power and control within an intimate relationship that threatens a person’s emotional or physical well being.
Prevail believes all people deserve to live free of fear in their own homes.
From one-on-one safety planning to ongoing support groups, Prevail offers services to families who have experienced or are living with violence and abuse.
Dealing with the aftermath of sexual assault is often a long emotional process for the victim and their family. It is important that the survivor receives continuous support in order to work through the delicate healing process. Separate programs are available for adults and adolescents offering education and support from trained facilitators and other survivors on how to cope with the overwhelming emotions and the feeling that they are all alone.
Sessions are offered in 12-week cycles. Topics include: trust and boundaries, family influences and backgrounds, taking care of self, anger, self-esteem, guilt and shame, assertiveness, relationships and intimacy.
By openly and consistently addressing financial education along with job readiness for all clients, Prevail works to address the long-term self-sufficiency needs of the women we serve.
Prevail’s Employment Program began as a separate Not-for-For Profit Agency – Inspirations of Hamilton County. Founded in 2004, Inspirations’ mission was to help women leaving homes with domestic violence find or upgrade their employment status. Realizing that the majority of clients Inspirations served were also being served by Prevail, the boards of the two organizations formalized a merger effective April 1, 2009.
Today, women leaving violent homes can work with a Prevail advocate on their immediate safety needs and then literally walk down the hall to meet with the Employment Program Coordinator.
Services range from job counseling, assistance with resume writing, job applications, working through various barriers to employment, the job search, interview practice, researching employers on the internet, referrals and budgeting. Prevail also assists clients in overcoming various issues once employed.
Clients working with Prevail often have need for representation or have legal questions about divorce, custody, protective orders, landlord/eviction issues, domestic violence, legal separation, emergency custody and a myriad of other issues. Through opportunities to meet individually with an attorney on their particular situation and workshops on particular topics, Prevail works to meet the basic legal needs of victims.
